   @Elliptica I think above all it’s the fact that hentai is the only grassroots fiction industry that gives men what they want, and it operates along those lines.

   No other media industry gives a shit what a 22 yo male consumer wants, they take his money and attention as a given. Only the dweebish, isolated nerds making small batches of homemade comics to sell at conventions have their finger on the pulse of the kinds of things they wanna see

     I think people, when already in the midst of taboo, both sexual but also social, tend to be more honest, and that resonates with people. It's probably why people find scumbags to be charismatic or relatable.
