I still have an RX480 from when everyone was shilling AMD a few years ago.
-
@Meemoo @TopBep
>get better drivers
depends on the platform
>more reliable performance
what does that even mean. the only time its "unreliable" is with raytracing
>the average guy
that buys a +1000$ GPU ah yes
-
@DarkMahesvara @TopBep in what kind of magical universe do you live in where normies aren't constantly shilling thousands of dollars for tech? especially when entities like apple already exist.
I get that you don't like nvidia but be a bit more realistic :akko_sus:
also I've yet to meet anyone that unironically uses AMD GPUs. in reality, everyone just grabs Nvidia shit for better value
-
@DarkMahesvara @TopBep I mean sure, but why buy that when you can grab an RTX card and get better drivers, superior raytracing, and a more reliable performance for your buck? I hate to say this Dark but the average guy will just get what's best for their money.

@Meemoo @TopBep
>something which AMD is failing to provide
depends. 7900XTX is good maybe not compared to last gens but compared to nvidia (at least MSRP). reaching XX80 performances is already more than we could have hoped couple gens ago :shrug:
-
@Meemoo @TopBep also 7900XTX is more than enough for 4K
-
@Meemoo @TopBep
>the amount of patents and engineers they gobble up make it almost impossible for anyone to compete on the same level
which is why nvidia sucks. AMD make most of its tech open source and available on non AMD cards :shrug:
-
@DarkMahesvara @TopBep everyone already knows that.
we all want AMD to win but the cruel reality is that only results matter.
something which AMD is failing to provide.
goodwill can only get you so far when your average 27 year old Jimmy wants something that can run his games at 4k without any hassle.
-
@TopBep Nvidia is a monster in the tech space.
the amount of patents and engineers they gobble up make it almost impossible for anyone to compete on the same level of playing field they have.
AMD is probably having a shit time trying to make GPUs without breaching any patents, that's just how faggy patent laws are for tech.
high-end will be cucked for a while, but midrange might have some hope thanks to Intel joining the field.
but then again, people just opt to high-end since PCs are THAT expensive now anyway so Nvidia ends up winning regardless.

@Meemoo
I've been using AMD GPUs since like, 2011, back when it was still ATI.
I always prefer the underdog but I'm at an age now where time is so much more limited and I don't have the time to be fucking around with AMD GPUs. I hate to say it, but until AMD can have their actually Zen 2 moment with GPUs, I'm gonna just buy Nvidia going forward, the costs be damned.
As far as competition goes, AMD and Nvidia probably conspire to do no more than to keep GPU prices high, but AMD I'm sure actually wants to win the GPU market, they can't keep releasing stinkers after all, with only 8% market share. I guess they have 100% market share in Console GPUs, but fuck consoles.
-
I just checked, yeah, not only is the 4080 #1 best seller for GPUs, it occupies 4 slots out of the top 10.
You know, I just can't help but be a little pissed. Really, everybody wanted AMD to win this, to finally kick the teeth of Nvidia in, and force them to relent on their stupid ass position of trying to pretend like the crypto mining boom is still happening. For once, gamers showed some fucking backbone and decided that they'd wait for the 7900 XTX and NOT just buy the 4080 in droves. normally gamers just CONSOOM whenever they have the opportunity to do so, and in just this ONE instance they decided to wait.
And instead of being able to live up to what they promised, AMD comes out with this weak ass shit, and the best you're getting is a "whoops haha, meant for it to be competitive guys, but we need to fix the drivers! Just give us a moment to fix em XD"
-
@TopBep AMD won't do shit.
in fact, they might even be getting paid by Nvidia to not compete and they didn't mind because they are already making money as is out of gullible consoomers. .
I've been watching the AMD cope since all the way back in 2017.
eventually stopped caring and just grabbed a 3070 because AMD GPUs and drivers are shit
-
Jesus, I was hoping I was joking when I said that AMD made a better argument for the 4080 than Nvidia did, but nah, it's for real. Worst timeline confirmed, good job AMD!
