@Lobau Welcome to the family :)
@Lobau Absolutely love it.
(And I’m running Fedora Silverblue also.) :)
@aral nice! any feedback on the case after some use?
@Lobau In case it helps, I got my whole system pre-built by the folks at Quiet PC and this is what’s in it and how much it cost me in May.
@Lobau Well, this thing is a beast so I don’t think I’ll be on the lookout for an upgrade any time soon.
The only time I got a little worried about temperatures was when I was compiling an operating system with all cores maxed out at 100% with the heating on in the room. It was still under critical but it’s the warmest I’ve seen it and I did aim a fan at it just to be sure I didn’t tax it too much. But, yeah, otherwise, it’s rarely more than warm to touch if that.
@aral I was actually looking at them too, you can put up to a 5700G in it, but with the new 7000 series around the corner I wonder how much heat will the case be able to passively cool.
I believe the case can dissipate up to 65W, which might be short for the new APUs 🤔
@Lobau I mean, let me put it this way, I was complaining to Laura about how slow her maxed out M1 MacBook Pro felt the other day when I was testing something on it* :)
I know comparing a desktop to a laptop is (uhum) apples to oranges, but still.
* This is also a testament to how excellent Fedora Silverblue and the latest GNOME releases are.
@Lobau I have a StarLabs and I’m happy with it although the screen could be better. Haven’t tried their latest ones:
I like that they’re a small shop, based in Europe – well, they were until recently – and they don’t just sell branded reference designs.
@charlesroper @aral if I had to buy a laptop today, I would buy a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon linux edition I think
