A lot of people (myself included at one time) think that a good education comes from teachers who are very well versed in their field and are able to communicate it well to others. Basically it assumes that people coming into it are not well educated and need to be taught. The reality is that teachers need to be well educated so that people who've basically taught themselves can use the expertise of their teachers, like someone would use a book.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

I personally was a studious and nerdy kid, so my early math education was actually largely from outside the system (I actually had the equivalent of a college-level combinatorics course memorized before high school). However, this style of education is unlikely to be replicable.
