Mahjong Soul first impressions
1. I have never once understood anybody trying to explain this alien game, but the MS tutorial laid out the basics and it's surprisingly approachable. I played a few games against easy AI and didn't get last place every game
2. also surprisingly, Mahjong Soul *only* tutorializes the game itself, of Riichi Mahjong. It didn't tell me a single thing about the gacha or items or the social aspect. Didn't walk me through how or why to spend money. Maybe eastern audiences get that stuff since they're more likely to not immediately bounce off Mahjong
Mahjong explainer
1. you win by forming one of two general patterns of winning decks, and then secure victory by also having a special pattern. If it's poker, a 'full house' would be a winning pattern, but to secure victory you would need the full house to also meet some extra criteria, and maybe the "Peasant Revolution" criteria is not having any Trumps in your full house, and maybe the "Revolution Suppressed" criteria is not having any Spades.
2. you play by picking and discarding a card each turn, and everyone's discards are public, so as the game goes you can reason more reliably about how likely it is that you can complete different patterns.
