i guess it’s just better to use a server that doesn’t defederate from anyone, because otherwise you’re also walled from good content. it seems like fedi wasn’t actually made with defederation in mind. maybe even offering it as a feature is misleading. i’d like to have an option to quarantine and ward off troublemaker servers, but if i imagine the topology of distributed systems as a large graph then i don’t know how that should work off the top of my head without breaking communication with more distant vertices that have federated with the bad servers

@rice I think the best way to deal with this is to just block users or servers on a personal level. "defederation' was indeed not on anyone's mind until smugloli posted stuff at mastosoc

@rice every node is potentially connected to every other one, so you're not breaking the graph, just one edge
this seems more of a social than a technical issue to me

i guess instead of breaking federation (i.e the edge of the graph) you’d preserve the connections but drop the messages of the server you want to ”defederate” with
