@d0c40r0 @synapsid @PraxisOfEvil That’s the pilot side, I just watched an A&P get $2,000 to drive out and change a Bonanza’s battery last week. Given the dire AMT pipeline they’re REALLY starting to court the young’uns and the pot is only getting sweeter.
I can’t tell you guys how much a hard-charger counts for things. Everyone wants to hire the theoretical guy who will “WORK”, and despite all the boomerism that surrounds it things hold true. We just hired this guy kicking ass and I’m already having other companies ask if we’re willing to part with him.
An employee who can just get shit done is good. A kid showing up with some kind of background in building and fixing things has a better shot at getting a min-wage “apprentice” job than any other industry, but he’ll have to do some hangar walkin’ for a bit. You start out doing the oil changes, balancing the carbs (v. profitable for schools w/ LSA’s), and replacing cowlings, a year later you’re moving on up.
Flying side is diff. Still need money, but all the best pilots I know do both anyways, at our last meeting I was one of 2 guys in the dept that doesn’t have any maint. cert
