About a year as my main OS, but that doesn't mean I never used linux before, I'm a network engineer, so I use for servers and as VMs/tools for many years ago. -

Started noticing I was spending most of my time in Linux around 2006-2008. Virtual machines had become a valid option for Windows, so I switched as a test. Never really looked back, switched my home setup soon after. The last decade I've only used Windows for Windows admin specific tasks, remotely, or a few support issues.Unless you are a gamer or regularly use some Windows only software, there is nothing you are missing.

Linux_Is_Best (linux_is_best@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 31-Jul-2023 03:40:46 JST Linux_Is_Best @nixCraft How long have I used Linux?
Arguably, since the beginning.
How long as a dedicated daily driver?
If we're counting dual-booting, then around the time of Windows ME.
If we're talking about when I wipe all drives and left Windows in the dust, then around Windows 8.

vermaden (vermaden@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 31-Jul-2023 03:47:27 JST vermaden About 2 years.
First Slackware (6 months).
Then Gentoo (6 months).
Then moved to FreeBSD.
After 2 years I switched back to Ubuntu for 1 year as my ASUS P5B-V motherboard with Intel X3000 GPU based on G965 chipset was not supported by FreeBSD.
After that 1 year and disgusting period of PulseAudio bullshit I changed hardware and moved back to FreeBSD.
Now its almost two decades of FreeBSD.

Since the start of the year 2020. Windows 7 support had stopped, and with it, my use of Windows. I scheduled a major computer upgrade and switched to Linux at the same time.
Bounced around a few different distros. A bit rocky at first, but all is fine now.
When very cutting edge Linux software is labeled "unstable, use at own risk", learn the easy way. Stay on stable releases. -

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 31-Jul-2023 07:32:59 JST Nazo @nixCraft I actually don't, but more because I always come back to the fact that gaming just still isn't really where it should ideally be in Linux (which isn't Linux's fault to be clear.) I've been using Linux off and on quite a lot though which I guess started maybe around 2000 or so. These days I consider it a necessity to have a distro handy at all times if nothing else to fix things (especially a live distro is handy.)
