John Rando (john_rando@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 28-Jul-2023 23:12:15 JST John Rando @deprecated_ii I can somewhat understand the desire for foolproofing given how little training, guidance and instruction is given to typical plant operators, at least from the non-nuclear utilities perspective.
But why is that? Why not make sure your workers are knowledgeable and competent to handle their jobs in all circumstances? Oh wait, management doesn’t actually know how to manage people, they just want to manage soulless machines. The fewer and less skilled the operators are, the better, because then you spend less on payroll. Except when something goes wrong and the workers don’t know what to do, resulting in a disaster. But at least the bean-counters got to look good to the boss with all the money they saved.

supersid (supersid333@gearlandia.haus)'s status on Friday, 28-Jul-2023 23:12:34 JST supersid @john_rando @deprecated_ii I've done government work long neough to know that the bean counters are really really good at solving "problems" in the now only for the consequences of their actions to come bite them in the ass later. "We got too many people," they say as they start finding all ways to cull the ranks only for them to act surprised when we're suddenly critically undermanned when the skilled people they didn't fire stop renewing their contract/retire naturally.
