function serialNumber () {
return new Date().getTime().toString()
}
It’s a bit sad knowing the code you write will fail in just 273,737 years.

But, hey, on the bright side, I know it’ll always remain under the 20 octet limit imposed on certificate serial numbers in RF 5280.
So it’s swings and roundabouts, I guess.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ctietze Haha, they can if they like, it’s for local development server certificates :)
@aral Now that you shared it, I hope nobody begins guessing serial numbers :)
@aral
Not to worry. There will still be COBOL programmers around to fix the Y275K problem.
@lePetomaneAncien Bloody hell, how long do COBOL programmers live?
@aral You sure about that, Aral? If you are using that to create serial numbers and call it twice in under a millisecond, you may get the same serial number both times.
@stevensrmiller If someone manages to do that on their local machine when generating local development certificates (which is what this is for), I’ll give them a prize ;)
@aral Anything that can go wrong...
@stevensrmiller Haha, indeed :)
