@coolboymew I love that the reason for this phrase is due to historical lack of documentation either because of employee not doing their job/bad pedagogical skills, or either proprietary/patent bullshit.

@mangeurdenuage @coolboymew so the as/400

@mangeurdenuage @coolboymew so I remember when I bought hard disks for mine on ebay when the original array was seemingly going out (I forget if it did or didn't but it made concerning noises and all). They didn't work aside from disk 1 or let me raid it but all 4 spun up.
Turns out you need to go into a settings menu for diagnostics to format the hdds and it'll tell you then why it's initially rejecting the disk at which point it lets you format it.

@coolboymew @mangeurdenuage also another fun as/400 fact: when I asked a shitty irc chat about this I got retarded takes like "bro the fru numbers are slightly different" or "bro it's not on the IBM approved list you're supposed to be using only a IBM approved disk" (it was for a similar model and the size was approved).
None of them told me to try formatting it this way I had to read pages upon pages of obscure documentation on ibms site.

@coolboymew @mangeurdenuage the more proprietary the computer system the more you are likely to run into douchebags like this btw
