to validate our calculation (and i know this is not good science, but hey): i would like to ask:
what do you think is a fair price you would be ok with paying for pocket reform? (open source, aluminum milled body, kailh choc switches, 7 inch 1920x1200, 8gb ram, 128gb emmc).

@mntmn Oh yeah, I think I mentioned this before but I’d love to be able to buy without the switches so I could put spring-swapped 15g linears in it instead, I have crappy fingers so >30g switches like whites or browns isn’t really comfortable. Could just use my own keyboard of course but then I’d have a bunch of switches I’d never use which feels like bit of a waste!

@mntmn I have absolutely no clue but something like 600€+VAT would be a price I’d find entirely reasonable. But the again I have absolutely no clue, and I guess keyboard and casing alone would be like >200€ if I were to try and source it independently so…
Also, if I had money to sprinkle around more carelessly I’d gladly pay more than 900€+VAT just because I think you and what you’re doing is awesome ❤️

@mntmn to be fair, I have a bag of 15g springs somewhere so if I got a pocket with the pro reds I’d probably swap the springs and be perfectly happy, so as not to waste perfectly good switches, it’s just the work of swapping out the springs that’s a bit daunting 😜

@mntmn @janerictobias Other choc switches to consider (for you or just anyone reading): Purpz and Robins (both from some friends at Boardsource). 25g ballpark linear and clicky, respectively. I've been planning on putting the bag of Robins I have into my Reform at some point, they're niiiiiiice

@sontags which docking station do you use? i don't have much experience with these. power&usb should work, but display could be an issue.

@mntmn but for real: is there a chance that USB-C docking stations will work? In that case it will most likely become my one and only computer. If that's the case I would only depend on open source for work which is kind of a wet dream of mine...

@sontags as far as i know imx8mplus has no displayport out, only hdmi 2

@sontags do the monitors have hdmi input as well? then you would just need to plug one more cable, as usb-c/pd would work with the dock

@mntmn I have a cheap one at home (i-tec is the brand, probably built in some sort of sweat shop, found it in the trash), at work there is a fancy HP dock. I tend to work all over the place (I love co-working spaces) so my my computer needs to be:
- small for transport
- stand alone (eg. a laptop)
- run Linux (preferably arch with i3/sway, but I am happy to adopt)
- run a solid browser, a terminal and vim
- allow to work with a USB-C docking station ( here is one in every place I do work)
