   i'm not super happy with Evolution as a calendar app. it's not like Google or Apple's calendars. why can't they just copy what they're doing? it would be better. those companies spent a lot on UX research. just copy it and you won't have to do your own R&D.

     @thor because apple sued google for using comic style speech text bubbles in SMS messaging apps. You can't just take someone's ui and apply it to your own product [legally]

     @thatguyoverthere eh, then make them rounded rectangles. just make it close enough. also, most of these Linux GUIs? the corpos don't give a damn. it's a small space and no one's making money.

     @thor I think most people may just prioritize functionality over the users ability to access the functions. Also having the skills to make systems do things doesn't translate to being good at predicting human behavior or building something aesthetically pleasing. Personally I am much more comfortable working on back end systems level tasks than frontend design even though they may be more technically difficult

     @thor I think the people doing the work are aware. The people who try to use the tools and decide not to because they find them too complex or lacking certain features they expect may not understand. Being aware that user interfaces aren't your specialty doesn't make a person want to focus more on user interface design though. I know I'm not great at UI so when I get tasks related to that I consider them higher difficulty even if the underlying functional change is simple.
