one question, which graphics card works best with linux? especially with free drivers? :zt_think:
-
@Narbray nouveau are the community created open source nvidia drivers. they severely limited and inferior to the proprietary official ones.
TL;DR fuck nvidia
-
@DarkMahesvara @Narbray did the team looked around the drivers' source code that the NVIDIA open-sourced a while back?
-
@DarkMahesvara i mean i not use rolling release distro
the distro I'm using already came with this pre-installed
so that's what I'm using
[Graphics]
Vendor: nouveau
OpenGL Renderer: NVD9
OpenGL Version: 4.3 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 22.3.6
OpenGL Core: 4.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 22.3.6
OpenGL ES: OpenGL ES 3.1 Mesa 22.3.6
Vulkan: Not Supported
-
@Narbray AMD. if you don't use rolling release distro usually 1-2 gens old
-
@DarkMahesvara so, it is better to buy an AMD, I use the stable version.
-
@Narbray its the only option if you want free driver. there is intel now but they still unreliable with lower performance but maybe in +3 years.
i guess with stable you mean Mesa which is graphics library supporting many different APIs like Vulkan and OpenGL
-
@MoeBritannica @Narbray im sure they did. from my limited understanding it does not help much if at all. they still get the finger until they stop with there feature exclusivity bs
