     The mention of the weather balloon shootdown made me smile.
     
     Sometime back in the 60s, the CIA lost one of it's U-2 spyplanes over Russia. They assumed it had been destroyed, so they claimed it was strictly atmospheric research. But the pilot (and the plane) survived. Glowniggers also pulled the same stunts over China, spyplanes conducting weather research.
