     @niclas when it happened all the sounds of breaking trees rain and wind all blended into one enormous white noise. Whole thing was maybe 15 minutes.

     @Flick it happens. Just sucks so much work has been undone so quickly. Part of the roof to my church was damaged and a building a block or 2 away burned down (lightning strike). There were sightings of a cloud that was starting to drop into a tornado, but no idea if any touched down. My property is the worst on the street but I think there is a lot more actual structure damage and stuff around town. The neighbors pine broke off and tore up my hedge and probably damaged a few fruit trees. There were others that got completed uprooted elsewhere.

     @charliebrownau @Flick yeah if I had more space things could be more spaced out. I'm not about to take down all the old growth trees that line my property. The garden is in about the only place I can have it. I'm not even on a full acre here so I have to make due with the space I have.
     
     On the upside the downed maple branches and the neighbors pine are really going to open up the light back there a bit. I also got a few great pine logs I can mill into nice lumber, and if I can get my chipper running plenty of hardwood mulch for my grow beds.
     
     I don't go to church since the pandemic started, but that church is the church of my youth so it will always be "my church".

     @Flick go big or stay home I always say... Sirens were going off still 5 or 6 hours later. I think a firefighter may have been injured. I have the weekend to work on making it so we can at least walk around the yard again and get a better assessment on our damage but I think the most important stuff was missed (except for my annual garden). I had some berry bushes that are probably crushed but their roots will be fine and the plants will probably grow back stronger.

     @charliebrownau @Flick I think in total only 4 or 5 trees were damaged (I have over 20) and other than one dwarf pear tree it was all trees that have been here for 30+ years. The pear tree will probably survive. I'm going to need to cut the top off because a branch broke that ripped some bark off but somehow it wasn't completely smashed (pine branches surrounded it and somehow it was still standing.

     The difference is probably the wind. There are almost never any gale force winds in Kuala Lumpur.

     I lived in Kuala Lumpur for 25 years and these kinds of downpours happens often there, every day to some extent, just a matter of how intense. From video, that intensity is probably 2-3 times per month a bit more often in April and Sept/Oct.

     And really annoying since it becomes almost impossible to have a conversation, due to sound to loud, even without wind and breaking trees

     @niclas this is very atypical for an Appalachian valley. It was definitely the most intense storm I've seen here. When I was younger we used to see heavy thunderstorms in the afternoon many days in the summer, but this was like 10 of them at once. The amount of water that built up on the surface because it couldn't be absorbed that quickly was more than I've seen after days of rain. My property had a 4ft wide mote for a little while there.
