djsumdog (djsumdog@djsumdog.com)'s status on Wednesday, 12-Jul-2023 01:17:46 JST djsumdog One of my best friends is in accounting at Amazon. During the end of quarter, she'll work insane 60~80 hour weeks, which I totally don't understand (but seem common in finance).
She's spent a considerable amount of time in warehouses too and seen workers all around the US. Because of her position, she's aware of how much they get paid (as well as people in IT, many of which were hired $80k ~ $100k over market value in 2020; hence the massive layoffs).
She told me she doesn't understand why the warehouse workers complain or threaten to unionize. They get paid more and do less than many other factory jobs, not even considering how safe their jobs are since they're often just picking/packing products and not around heavy/high speed equipment.
Amazon workers get cramped hands and wrist injuries. People at McKee Foods (Little Debbie) have got their hair caught in machines and had half their scalp ripped off .. and that's in a literal cookie factory!
