   I don’t really have that much hope for this “gold backed BRICS currency”. I know, in theory it sounds just radical, but I don’t think the groups involved are trustworthy enough to have it really take hold.

   Just like our “gold market” where all kinds of paper substitutes and sheists happen behind the scenes, the chinks, ruskies, and southern nigs will try to pull some shell game where you buy this currency but the “gold” only exists in the word of another corrupt bureaucrat vouching for totally real, unimpeachably tangible gold reserves….that nobody is allowed to see but their co-conspirators in the grift.

     It’s going to be interesting seeing western crypto-tards get sucked into the most surface-level dogshit jiggery and pokery that BRICS can offer. I’d like for it to be a real gold-backed dollar, but….come on. You really think they would?

     That’s a lot of gold, and this thing is supposed to be a world stage contender currency. Everyone else who’s ever done it ended up moving away from it because they couldn’t get the numbers to work. Who’s gonna vouch for it? Who would you trust to even tell you the gold is really there backing your money?

     @synapsid Every time I have someone trying to sell me that shit I lose my temper, been LITERALLY hearing it from old prepper dudes since I was six years old and I cannot remember silver ever venturing outside the 20-30 dollar mark, with gold 16-2100.

     It’s risen and fallen, but always come right back to the last time some old timer put his arm around my neck like he told me the world’s greatest secret: buy lots of gold and silver, it’s gonna be impossible to soon!

     if you're prepping for the "collapse" no one is going to trade some fucking silver bar for food/water/bullets/whatever tangible good they actually need to survive. It's not a great inflation hedge, so what's the point?

     @synapsid Most of them have already loaded up on the bulk stuff though, only so much space to store a full ton of rice/beans/ammo, so it’s not like they aren’t totally unprepared. They just really buy this gay boomercon stuff about how they’ll ban gold or it’ll shoot up to $10,000/oz whenever money gets printed, without any understanding of how they’d sell it.

     Heaven forbid you ever actually trade with them. Enjoy spot price plus a 30% premium because “it’s pure gold, off the books!”

     Have actually tried to daydream about my own ideal X-backed currency. I like the idea of tying a dollar to time, where you have certification standards and the equivalent hour that your unit buys you.

     A copper unit is 1 hr of unskilled labor, a silver some flavor of skilled but low-stakes labor, and a gold high-value work that requires expertise. CPA’s would be silver, surgeons gold, and teenage cashiers the copper.
