eal (eal@post.ebin.club)'s status on Monday, 10-Jul-2023 23:31:09 JST eal @lain I like to think tolkien would've felt at home in a finnish forest LS likes this. -

eal (eal@post.ebin.club)'s status on Monday, 10-Jul-2023 23:32:31 JST eal @thatguyoverthere do you actually grow bilberries (and not the american blueberry)? In my mental taxonomy they're a forest-only plant Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -
Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: (thatguyoverthere@shitposter.club)'s status on Monday, 10-Jul-2023 23:44:04 JST Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: @eal I don't on hand but I'll try and snap one later today. I started with 5 varieties (multiples of each) but I had a few plants die in the first couple years and bought a few more. I don't know the species of most of them, but I have 4 plants that are very short and 4 that seem capable of getting quite large. I just trimmed 2 that were over a meter tall to try and get them to branch out a bit more, but I have one next to some swiss chard and I think the chard might be taller lol -
eal (eal@post.ebin.club)'s status on Monday, 10-Jul-2023 23:44:06 JST eal @thatguyoverthere cool, do you have a photo? bilberry (or "european blueberry") doesn't really become a big bush, it's more like a twig or a shrub -
eal (eal@post.ebin.club)'s status on Monday, 10-Jul-2023 23:44:26 JST eal @Flick @thatguyoverthere forests like this are usually chock full of the plant (this pic might have more lingonberry though) Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -
Flick 🇬🇧 (flick@spinster.xyz)'s status on Monday, 10-Jul-2023 23:44:27 JST Flick 🇬🇧 @eal @thatguyoverthere Oh, weird: they grow wild around me (although locally we call them winberries, they’re basically the same) on the open moors. I can’t picture them in woodland.

Flick 🇬🇧 (flick@spinster.xyz)'s status on Monday, 10-Jul-2023 23:48:30 JST Flick 🇬🇧 @eal @thatguyoverthere Oh, ok, fairly open forests, then. Still, this is also almost all bilberry with a bit of grass mixed in. I guess they like the acid soil, peat up here and podzol from the conifers where you are.

(I’m amazed you’re not bored of those kinds of pictures from me, must be time zones meaning you don’t usually see them!)

susansiens (susansiens@spinster.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 11-Jul-2023 00:13:02 JST susansiens @starsstorm @Flick @eal @thatguyoverthere You cannot imagine how shocking I find photos of housing developments on TV. I grew up in a working-class suburb but the developer left trees and the houses were modest. Now the houses are huge and ugly and seem to go on forever. Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: (thatguyoverthere@shitposter.club)'s status on Tuesday, 11-Jul-2023 00:13:02 JST Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: @susansiens @eal @Flick @starsstorm A lot of houses being built today are on old farmland that didn't have a ton of trees on them to begin with (at least around me). Also they tend to enact HOA policies to make sure the ugly houses stay that way. -
Starsstorm 🍉 ☀️ (starsstorm@spinster.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 11-Jul-2023 00:13:03 JST Starsstorm 🍉 ☀️ @Flick @eal @thatguyoverthere I’ll never be bored of them. I live in suburbia and it’s just never ending houses here. And if it isn’t houses, it’s corn. Just corn. -
