Too bad about his later games though :a_disgust:
-
@locagainstwall @Ene I only played 999 but I could imagine a teenage girl writing the twist. A teenage girl who grew up on M. Night Shyamalan in Southern California and was so disappointed by his decline she sought to make her own thriller.
-
@0vtcast @Ene I meant AI The Somnium Files
It has a really bad pozzed scene where a character gives a speech about how great the LGBTP community is
Funniest thing is it sounds like she is being forced to read it off at gunpoint lmao. Sadly it's meant to be serious though
-
@locagainstwall @0vtcast @Ene The sequel had an even worse scene, lol. At least it sounded more natural, because of how hateful and angry it was.
-
@ChristiJunior @0vtcast @Ene Glad I lost all interest in the first game then. And even more glad I pirated it because I went into it blind so I did not know about the pozz until I played it myself
-
@SpurgAnon @PickledFedora @Ene Oh right, that.
I wouldn't really say it's an alteration to the ending, it's a reward for beating New Game + specifically. There's also two versions of that title screen, one where Nia is invited to join Rex's harem and all 4 are together, and another where she runs up and shoves Rex away, stealing his girls (that's the one in second image).
-
@SpurgAnon @PickledFedora @Ene I'm not aware of the Xenoblade 2 ending being patched, I know people have datamined it to supposedly determine what the last spoken words were, but I bought the game at launch, played through it, and don't recall ending being altered since then.
Hell, Xenoblade 1 didn't get its ending altered in the Switch remake, which it probably should have, lol.
-
@ChristiJunior @PickledFedora @Ene it's a super minor change lmao
Original ending Nia gets cucked and doesn't show up at the end or as part of the boot screen. Patched ending: Nia's there as a proper harem waifu.

@Ene That's probably the first time I've seen someone call Blade 2 the best Xeno game. It has some of my favorite moments out of the ones I've played, particularly in the second half, (Blades 1, X, 2, & Gears) but also the filler at the start of chapter 4 and the feeling Ira should have been paced into the main story in pieces between chapters rather than a full side story Takahashi recommended between Chapters 7 & 8 make it worse structured than Blade 1. I did appreciate how they basically remade the combat from Chrono Cross in the pseudoMMO format, though it took a while to adjust because you tap the stick to cancel in real-time while in Cross the turn-based format makes that easier to figure out.

@PickledFedora @Ene Lots of people on Fedi consider Xenoblade 2 the best Xenoblade game.
I would say that it has the best Xenoblade soundtrack, except that is an unnecessary qualifier - it has the best video game soundtrack I've heard, period. It also has the best cast of characters in the series, it has my favorite battle system, and the best Waifus. The pacing is iffy, and the tutorials are atrocious, but it definitely builds up to some of the best story moments in the entire series, including my favorite ending. It's also a game that has only gone up in my estimation with every passing year.
-
@ChristiJunior @PickledFedora @Ene the OG ending or the patched ending? Lmao
-
@ChristiJunior Slight tangent: I know XC1's title screen is pretty iconic with the first few notes, but XC2 instills something in me that I have *NEVER* felt before. I really promise it's not just more XC2 dick riding but legitimately, Where We Used To Be was first a beautiful song when I started the game, but now it scares me when I listen to it. It's melancholy mixed with fear mixed with a 1000 yard stare of "acceptance." The framing of the cast looking up at the seemingly endless Yggdrasil is also spectacular 👌

@Cayhr @ChristiJunior @PickledFedora @Ene @SpurgAnon All 3 main games have spectacular title themes.
-
@ArdainianRight @Cayhr @Ene @PickledFedora @SpurgAnon My favorite is still 1's tho - it starts so softly, and then just builds and swells magnificently until it reaches its climax of desperate beauty, that becomes even more powerful after you've gone through the Prison Island events.
-
@ChristiJunior Actually all of us are wrong. The best title theme is X's... /s
Mono X is pretty good though, but it doesn't have a similar level of emotional impact that the mainline 3 have... at least until its beat drop (obviously the context is also totally different). And I love X btw :shinobu_kaka:
Now... reading through the original thread, you mentioned XC2's ending (Homura's final words of the game). Part of me hopes XC4 is the landmass at the end of XC2. I honestly really didn't like XC3's mid-history limbo and I would've much preferred discovering the union of the worlds there. But I guess Takahashi wanted to delve into alchemical symbolism and whatever... And also they dropped a buncha Xenosaga stuff so idk. We may never get a focus on Shulk and Rex again, which is a bummer because I wanted XC3 to be Shulk and Rex's parties meeting under non-Nopon sage conditions (yknow, on that whole new landmass at the end of XC2), but the 3 didn't make me care much for that game's events.
Maybe I'm smooth brained but I really didn't care for XC3 too much. It just felt so... whatever. :shrug:
