@PonyPanda @sysrq wtf "doesn't scale well for everyday use"?
There are 1000 milimeters in a meter. There are 1000 meters in a kilometer.
There are very few use cases where you'll need to use less than a milimeter and more than a thousand kilometers when talking in daily life.
There are 1000 grams in a kilogram, there is 1000 kilograms in a ton. Same way, few if no uses for less than a gram or more than a few tons in daily life.
On the other side, 8 and a half inches make a duck, then 2 and a 1/3 ducks to make a foot, then 4 and 1/10 feet to make a yard, then 53 yards make a shlong and then 12 shlong make a mile, or something like that.
Even professional chefs in recipes turned to use weighted grams for everything instead of the stupid measuring spoons and cups because it's more precise and less prone to measuring errors.

@pettanko @PonyPanda @sysrq if only there was a way to compound millimeters (or centimeters, which are the most used, and have 10 millimeters each) to describe bigger stuff. Like saying "something is 10 centimeters long". But that would be impossible, it's better to say "this object is as long as a Reese's bar"

meters are too big and milimeters are too small though
