So, the corpo eyes are on fedi now. It's no longer possible to deny this.
So, ITT I'm inviting people to share ideas of what this means for our future.
Are there going to be advertising bots crawling around and scraping our data? Will the corpos take over completely and push all of us out? Will instances get hits put on them? Will the corpo instances never federate with anyone not willing to bend to their will? Will the corpos fail completely and never actually even scratch the surface of what fedi is?
I'm very interested to hear what people have to say about this, because I'm not entirely sure myself.

@grumpy i think corpos will not federate just because of the dynamics that federation puts in place
but if they do they might apply some harsh overreaching filters to not get missed negatives and only false positives
-
@caskd yeah im leaning towards this. they'll have a very sanitized and boring version of federation, where they can only see mastodon.social and similar instances, with nothing else visible. i think its likely that they'll try to expand and get shut down
its funny tho seeing so many mastodongers freaking the fuck out and degenerating threads when it never would have federated with them in the first place

@grumpy
>Are there going to be advertising bots crawling around and scraping our data?
They don't need to, they'd be entirely delivered to them
>Will the corpos take over completely and push all of us out?
As you said after, it probably won't federate with most of us anyways. I spoke with a user that had an interesting view, it would potentially be a trojan horse for getting people interested in the fediverse instead of staying on big tech, a bit like what happened with Gab. I think their federation won't last for long

@coolboymew actually a good point. its very possible that threads will blow up in zuck's face and just bring more people to fedi, similar to how great musk was at advertising mastodon lmfao
threads is already not great. a lot of people who've used it are disappointed

@grumpy I heard from around here that it's heavily lacking in features which is a killer for a late comer like this
Also the Facebook bots are insane, probably even more so than the Twitter ones ever were. People are gonna be miserable pretty damn quick on that platform

@grumpy Sorry, *facebook moderation bots
