   kind of funny how we have something called non-food grade plastic that is absolutely allowed in things that touch your skin. which touches food.

     @roboneko @thor @m0xee food safe usually means plastics that don't contain BPA/endocrine disrupters. They shouldn't leech chemicals primarily. The micro plastics issue is a separate one, but they have also made biodegradable plastics which theoretically won't stay around and become micro plastics.

     @thor Doesn't it just mean that they are resistant to acids and other liquids often contained in food?
     I don't thing that touching your food (or skin) with non food grade plastics will poison it immediately, however if they remain in contact for extended periods of time or get exposed to high temperatures, some might get absorbed.

     @m0xee @thor nah food grade plastic means that it's safe to use as a microplastic when cooking. wouldn't want to use something toxic as a seasoning

     the whole idea of "food safe" is that it poisons you only ever so slightly enough that nobody will care or notice until one day you can't ignore its effects
