@jeffcliff @ErinInTheMorn Well, there is quite definitely an identified phenomenon of medical professionals discouraging or even outright *refusing* things such as tubal ligations or hysterectomies for women under 40, for exactly the same kind of appeal-to-deity fundamentalist reasons such as "irreparable harm to your reproductive future." And, it's a problem, it takes away the agency of those women who want to make those decisions.

i think though, in the vacuum of reason left because the opponents of such things are almost exclusively appeal-to-deity, you might notice other public health implications
maybe hysterectomies( or vasectomies for that matter) have a social component, i don't know, but i doubt it - they are a pretty serious choice, but ultimately a personal one. Birth control otoh gets into the water and the changes are more subtle.
i'm glad that the doctor who got me my vasectomy gave me some pushback on it, in retrospect, he did arrange it anyway but at least he tried to make sure i was of sound mind in making my decision first.
