     How many boomers know that WWI German soldiers and German citizens were put into concentration camps in France that were borderline death camps and then forced to work, some up until their liberation by Hitler? Or the biggest mind blower I read in Adelbert Holl's autobiography "After Stalingrad" that captured German soldiers from WWI had been taken to Russian work camps in the far east and were still there when captured German solders from WWII arrived in the Soviet camps to do a decade of often fatal hard labour?

     depending how old she was, at her age,the holocaust had only happened a generation ago, and there were plenty people on both sides who were still alive to get firsthand accounts from, if you cared to. Now any jews who were alive at all, who lived through it, are probably mostly in old folks homes, and even they were young and probably didn't understand the full extent of what they were seeing, and most of the people with second-hand accounts are getting old and senile.
     
     For the kids? it's now ancient history.
     
     It's like expecting them to know of the details of The Venezuelan Crisis, the panic [of 1893], the epidemic [of 1890], the Russo-Japanese War, the dreyfuss afair, or the Fashoda Incident. It's not unthinkable, but it's a little further in the past and lots of students probably just glossed over it, if they learned it at all.
     
     and the 'they don't care about anything' is pure boomer nonsense. The kids have their own things they care about. Burn the wrong flag and you'll see.
