I remember semi-jokingly calling this "the gamergate anime" when the first look came out, but now that it's over I genuinely believe that's a fitting description. It's a show with a strong anti-institutional theme, a alternate depiction of the edgy 2000s just before the investor-driven subversions of the current year and beyond. You get the impression that the creators are displeased with the increasingly profit-driven media of today and the vilification of the media and fans of yesterday. Despite these positives, however, there's just not enough talent to make this truly great, plot is sloppy and the animation is wildly inconsistent. Despite all of that, I did genuinely enjoy the themes and characters, and the opening and ending are worth checking out at the very least.
