Wood gasifier to heat a biogas reactor for year round methane production. Convert to methanol for storage/use to make diesel fuel.

@modpod yeah you can run small engines (and even some larger ones) on wood gas which is really interesting. Biodigesters are also really cool, but after doing a bit of research I've learned that unless you live near the equator they aren't going to be as productive as you want unless you can keep them heated. By generating electricity with wood gas you could add thermostatically controlled heat and even agitation to the biodigester to increase methane production. Methane is difficult to store though, so it seems like converting it to methanol would be a good way to make keep what you don't need to use right away, and as it turns out methanol is a key ingredient in making diesel fuel. In essence you'd be converting wood into bio-diesel. I don't think you'd need to run the gasifier year round, or at least you don't need as much gas in the summer when you can get away with just agitation (depending on where you live).
I have never experimented with any of these, but they all seem very interesting and the pipeline might make a person with a little land able to fuel up their own vehicles with diesel in a situation where fuel is not available. You can also probably get away with running ethanol in some gas engines.
I saw a video once of a truck that was actually modded for wood gas which was a hell of a thing to see. The gasifier took up half of the bed, but if you need to go it's good to know that it's possible with a little effort and planning.

@thatguyoverthere if i had a house, i'd have already built a gassifier. i'll put it that way.
downdraft biomass gassification is *super* cool.

@thatguyoverthere
yeah theyre super cool..
ive read about the stuff making methane from coffee bean hulls, anything carbon based really even pig sh**.
ive seen a gassifier engine in a pickup truck before, out at burning man. its entirely possible....
and yes it was running.
