@Meemoo its fucking rust troonware with a hardcoded slur regex so yeah its shit and somehow it cant even fucking do activitypub right and breaks very 10 fucking seconds lol
@Meemoo Lemmy isn't even built by troons, that's kbin. Like troons are very, very mad about lemmy specifically because it isn't built by troons. The main devs are commies.
Anyway, go ahead and list complaints, because lemmy's main problems that don't boil down to "devs were not ready for sudden influx" are basically to do with how poorly it interacts with non-lemmy instances.
@theorytoe leave it to troons to somehow be so incompetent that they can't implement basic features that already exists in the software they are copying from :cirno_laugh:
even YT comments are complaining about how trooned out the whole thing is :shinobu_kaka:
well for one, the software fails in becoming a decentralized solution by design. instead of each instance being a forum, it's a network that hosts forums.
what this means is that it only takes people flocking to the biggest instance for the whole thing to become centralized. forums don't work the same way fedi/pleroma does
there's also the slur thing that Theory mentioned in the thread.
these are just some of the problems off the top of my head. I don't see myself using this at all personally.
@Meemoo they're never done with the blocklists, always one more instance they missed and sometimes they even eat their own (you dont have enough rules on YOUR instance) they cry and bitch and report, I see the reports against me and I laugh as if the admin of kitsunemimi.club will ban himself over calling out fags
@Meemoo let alone the fucking rust is a just c++ but somehow worse the only feature that then language has is that you dont have to think about deallocating any classes youve instantiated its still just as bloated still has the fucking slowest build toochain known to man every dev is incompetent and write software filled with memory leaks (techincally huge memory usage, but still the same thing in my book)
@Meemoo@Zerglingman though to be fair the regex filter kinda sucks at its job at least from what ive heard
>well for one, the software fails in becoming a decentralized solution by design. instead of each instance being a forum, it's a network that hosts forums. >what this means is that it only takes people flocking to the biggest instance for the whole thing to become centralized. forums don't work the same way fedi/pleroma does I could arguable say the exact same thing about forums or some non-federated software because (yet again) the critical mass can get involved in 1 deployment, then that one becomes the dominant deployment everyone uses (i.e. what reddit did in the first place)
@theorytoe@Zerglingman I think the biggest problem with the software is how much of it they copied from reddit in terms of structure. having instances be a full network that hosts multiple forums means all of those are controlled by a single individual/group which can and will create a "power mod" who will enforce a singular set of rules on that community. and be a repeat of normal reddit 1-1. especially with how from what I've seen at least, the creators of lemmy are exerting control on the instances through the software itself . that isn't good.
@Meemoo@Zerglingman yeah although the same is happening with masotodon, its just becoming a hypertroon twitter, so much so that normalfags often just go back to their derivative platforms, especially since you cant have a constant stream of new stuff in your feed 24/7.
thats what happened with the like 3 twitter migrations, and thats what will happen with reddit (lol)
and as far as power mods go, sure you can have them, but users are always free to move to other instances, unlike le twitter where you effectively cant get back on if you get a hard ban
@theorytoe@Zerglingman sadly all of these problems have given decentralized software a pretty bad reputation to the normies, especially the whole Mastodon thing because troons are fucking insufferable
Lemmy and Kbin will be a repeat of Mastodon because it's being ran by controlling morons
@Meemoo >there's also the slur thing that Theory mentioned in the thread. If you're talking about the hardcoded filter, that's been gone for years. It's a config option instead now. I have it set to an easter-egg.
@Meemoo@Zerglingman yeah thats kinda what you are gonna get anyway though I think its a decent enough gatekeep to keep most retards and keep them from polluting wahts left of the good side of the netowrk
@Meemoo@theorytoe In my experience the lemmy devs are very much not controlling. lml moderation is a different story, and while they're much the same group, they seem to keep a professional distinction. Since they're not trannies I trust them to hold that.
@theorytoe@Meemoo This is why I have an instance for flooding cunny all over them. I'll open it up hopefully by the end of the week, I just want cert stuff to suck less.
