H. Faust (hfaust@shitposter.club)'s status on Sunday, 25-Jun-2023 21:23:45 JST H. Faust Now that the season is over, I can finally rank my top #3 anime:
1) Jijou wo Shiranai Tenkousei ga Guigui Kuru: I did begin to read the manga before the anime aired and I found it cute. But the Anime elevated the story to the point that I found myself giggly while watching it.
It's the kind of romantic comedy that I like which is straightforward and where the characters grow in front of you and learn about each others weakness and hopes. It also sheds a light on how shitty kids are and how can that affect you when you are one. It is treated kinda raw which in other hands it could have lead to a horrible show (Kotoura-san anyone?) but kudos to the director doing a magnificent job portraying these issues.
One of the best romantic comedies of this year so far.-

I still think prequels are useless, narrative-wise. But if you must do one (because money), at least try to give a profounder dimension to your characters. And the Megumin spin-off/prequel tried that, and it was mildly successful.
Not in the way you think because the character that I know have more respect for and tilted my already biased opinion was Yunyun. We finally got the opportunity why she behaved like that in the show and why in the movie she was eager to believe the letters that announced disaster. She needed this more than Megumin.
All the basic info you need to know about Megumin is shown on her first appearance on the show. She is a stubborn, intelligent, belligerent , prideful girl from the start and Kazuma knows this will only cause more trouble in the future.
Still worth a watch if you are a fan of Konosuba.Heavens Feel likes this. -
H. Faust (hfaust@shitposter.club)'s status on Sunday, 25-Jun-2023 21:24:14 JST H. Faust @GrosserKurfurst It was only the first three episodes, later is focused on Megumin trying to find her luck in the Axis cult city. But I understand why would someone drop it on those first episodes. Heavens Feel likes this. -
grosserkurfurst@baraag.net's status on Sunday, 25-Jun-2023 21:24:17 JST GrosserKurfurst @hfaust I dropped it after the second episode, it just lacked the energy of OG Konosuba, plus it also seemed to be too set on being a moeblob slice of life school show, a genre that's arguably more tired than isekai.
And for the lack of discussion I've seen about it online, I wasn't the only one.

Kerosene (kerosene@bae.st)'s status on Sunday, 25-Jun-2023 21:24:30 JST Kerosene @hfaust Definitely this prequel doesn't hold a candle to the original show. The comparison could be unfair since Konosuba is just that good, but being in the same franchise it's got to be held to that level of standards.
The gags don't hit like they should, the timing just seems off. The first episodes seem aimless and it jumps from one thing to another without any soundness. And the fucking cameos of the original gang that although funny interrupt the show come to be infuriating. But despite all of that I liked it.
I also ended up liking Yunyun a lot, which I didn't quite expect taking into account the show wasn't even about her.

H. Faust (hfaust@shitposter.club)'s status on Sunday, 25-Jun-2023 21:24:49 JST H. Faust @Kerosene I said it before, prequels are not necessary and will obviously be full of references of the main story. And the Megumin prequel/spin-off is no different.
I agree that the comedy is just right but to be fair, Konosuba set a high standard for that. Many have tried to copy or replicate that style and it just fell flat and worst of all, unfunny.
Yunyun stole the show and I welcome that.Heavens Feel likes this. -
H. Faust (hfaust@shitposter.club)'s status on Sunday, 25-Jun-2023 22:22:52 JST H. Faust @noyoushutthefuckupdad Only Oshi no Ko and Magical Destroyers fell on my radar.
Oshi no Ko is just not interesting to me, great visuals, amazing introduction to the show but knowing where it is going, I don't have time for that.
I wish I could have liked Magical Destroyers, but it overstayed its welcome. I think their ideas and the story they wanted to tell were too big for the budget they seem to have. Maybe it will become a cult classic, but right now is just disappointing.
Two people already praised Tengoku Daimakyo so I might give it a chance before the season starts. I've enjoyed shows that I didn't watch when they aired but I ended up liking them like Bocchi the Rock and Cyberpunk Edgerunnerscool_boy_mew likes this. -

Almost all of the shows I watched I ended up dropping them because I forgot, they became boring or just simply it wasn't that interesting to begin with. What a lackluster season. -
Dad (noyoushutthefuckupdad@shitposter.world)'s status on Sunday, 25-Jun-2023 22:22:53 JST Dad @hfaust lackluster season? no way, fag! we got some great stuff: Oshi no Ko (which has the makings of an amazing detective/revenge story), Jigokuraku, Tengoku Daimakyo (I love the "kids raised in a laboratory" trope), The Legendary Hero Is Dead, Rokudo's Bad Girls, Magical Destroyers (which is like a better FLCL), Mashle, The Dangers in My Heart and Ao no Orchestra (two highly entertaining romantic comedies), more Ranking of Kings, and One Piece is still going strong with some fantastic animation (Mew, don't click that Twitter link, it spoils a pretty rad fight). this was a glorious season and I loved it. hell, I still need to watch My Home Hero.
