Jeff Cliff (jeffcliff@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 23-Jun-2023 05:14:12 JST Jeff Cliff @saskboy
It's meant as a credible threat
"see how cruel and heartless I am to this group of defenseless people, when i could easily be kind? I will easily be this cruel and heartless to you when it's your turn, so stay in line or else"
and we can do it too, ( but there's a risk: if you oversignal, and if you don't keep it up people take advantage of the emptiness of your threats...and if you *do* people will be tempted to test you -- a prince's head is attached to his body only for so long unless he's machiavelli-level ruthless )

Hyolobrika (hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net)'s status on Friday, 23-Jun-2023 05:15:27 JST Hyolobrika How can you refuse to bow to someone as a threat? It sure shows a lack of (inordinate) respect, but that's not a *threat*.
Why is Canada bowing to indigenous people anyway? Do they see them as somehow superior? -
Saskboy K. (saskboy@mastodon.cc)'s status on Friday, 23-Jun-2023 05:15:29 JST Saskboy K. @Hyolobrika @jeffcliff yes, when PP does it as a threat, as Jeff noted.

Hyolobrika (hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net)'s status on Friday, 23-Jun-2023 05:17:53 JST Hyolobrika I understand a moment of silence for what (probably) happened to them. But bowing doesn't seem right. Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -

different kind of bow -
Hyolobrika (hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net)'s status on Friday, 23-Jun-2023 05:21:35 JST Hyolobrika Maybe I'm just too autistic to get it or I'm being pedantic but I've always thought of bowing (outside of Japan) as a thing to show a special level of subservience to someone. -
Hyolobrika (hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net)'s status on Friday, 23-Jun-2023 05:22:23 JST Hyolobrika Ah. You bow on other days as well. My bad. Here, when we want to remember a group of people who suffered (be they pure victims or soldiers) we just stand in silence for a while. At least, when we did that at school I don't remember anyone bowing. Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -

Jeff Cliff (jeffcliff@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 23-Jun-2023 05:34:00 JST Jeff Cliff PP is clearly making a statement on his own, and the only one who even could be coercing him is stephen harper. -

I don't know if he'd sign off on the statement you prepared for him. I don't know the guy. I don't really know enough about the situation to have any strong opinions. I don't know who stephen harper is either. I don't really follow Canadian politics. I do think that there is a lot of white guilt nonsense intertwined with [insert the current politically correct word for indigenous people in your area] issues in both of our countries, and while I am sympathetic to the idea that people were displaced when people came here, I think this is the case across the world, and there is no one shade of human who has oppressed others less over the span of human existence. All of our hands are bloody. -

Hyolobrika (hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net)'s status on Friday, 23-Jun-2023 05:40:35 JST Hyolobrika All of that is true. But we have moments of silence (and apparently in canada, bow) for many tragedies. Why not this one?
It doesn't have to imply feeling guilty for something your ancestors did and it doesn't have to be coercive.Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this.
