   idk about y'all but i'd rather see the anticapitalist cooperative fedi thrive than some neutered watered-down mainstreamed version. "others clearly disagree"

   nonetheless, that does seem to be the salient factor in the divide and there is a point that fedi isn't at all resistant to corporate takeover of the specs behind it

     to expand on this: the number one draw of fedi has always been that it won't fuck up everything in the name of profit. profit seeking has a corrupting air and you used to be able to palpably feel the detoxifying effect of just being in a noncommercial space. that's been happening less and less as the migration wave refractionary period keeps getting shorter, and it probably has not been in effect since november 2022, but it's definitely something i remember fondly.
