@coolboymew just remembered something funny. I used to get Strength of the World by a7x stuck in my head (it had been years since I listened to them) and the version stuck in my head would be in 8bit so I was CERTAIN it was a MegaMan Battle Network theme lol
@coolboymew@agora_brewing I couldn't get into Runescape but my step brother and my step sister's ex-husband were heavy into that game in the mid/late 2000's My step brother was heavily engaged into it because at the time my step mom and dad had a shitty dell prebuilt as the family computer and runescape was about the best mmo that machine could run.
My personal prebuild was an E-machines with an old Athlon XP 2000+. I run it with S3 Provsage 32MB integrated graphics for many years until I finally upgraded to a GeForce 6200 AGP. It wasn't the best card but it was enough to run Half Life 2, Morrowind and some older games.
Not trying to shit on Optiplexes they do have a legitimate use. If you're on a tight budget and you find can find a reasonable priced Low profile GPU they make okay budget gaming pc's if you're willing to live with sacrificing a bit of bells and whistles.
Not sure what year it stopped but it was what is now called OSRS that I played. It was a Dell Pentium 3 with 4gb ram and a dualcore processor but I dont remember any other specs. Dad "built" it on a website and ordered it. No graphics card iirc. We played a lot of Forgotten Realms on it.
Yes, optiplexes have their uses. I have one rn for a home bitcoin node and remote password manager. Its a massive step up from the Pi4.
@ooignignoktoo@coolboymew@agora_brewing sorry to barge in here, but I once in a blue moon play 2009scape on my Dell Optiplex 755 that run Trisquel. 2009scape is a Libre alternative to Runescape, and is an emulation of how RS was back in 2009. It has single player offline support and I bought this PC for $50.
Pi4's have decent use case too. Sure you're not getting a crazy amount of power but the performance you get with the power draw needed is impressive and they're really good for simple projects. I bought my nephew one a couple years back but he never really used it. I should totally ask him if he wants to make a pihole or something with it.
