"move fast and break things"
nothing wrong with using off the shelf stuff but you'd better make damn sure it *works*
-
@deprecated_ii We usually use glue on studs if something needs to be attached to structural composite bulkheads or other "DO NOT DRILL HOLES HERE" type structures.
-
@Rayfield question is, did someone who knew what they were doing fit out the tub, or did they just order the hull and fit it out themselves
I can easily imagine someone thinking "the hull only needs to be 3 inches, we made it 5 inches for safety, so I can drill an inch into the interior and it'll be fine" without considering anything else
-
also are those fixtures bolted into the pressure hull? because, uh
-
@hogankhan @Rayfield if it turns out the hull failed, the fact that it failed after a bunch of dives instead of on the first dive supports a fatigue failure. drill holes -> stress risers -> cracks develop over time -> implode
of course we have approximately zero information about what happened so this is all conjecture. there are lots of other ways they might have run into trouble
-
@deprecated_ii @Rayfield Maybe but this sub has been on several dives so far.
-
@deprecated_ii >they went wireless
That's even worse.
