@supersid333@Tamamo :angery: I remember when I was a kid thinking that people will finally see how cool video games are, how mistaken I was to want that. It's very clear how much satisfying old design is when I played the System Shock Remake which followed the original pretty much 99% and how I only used information inside the game to finish it, including listening to logs, something I never fucking do.
@Tamamo It still really does suck though that video games have become mainstream. Games were a lot more fun when they weren't expected to pander to the lowest common denominator at all times.
@Immahnoob@supersid333 Some modern QOL stuff is good like autosave and such. But modern devs don't seem to trust the intelligence of the players because god forbid someone might quit the game in frustration.
Nowhere is this more apparent than puzzle design.
These days its normal that a game outright spoils the fucking solution for you before you can even start solving it. Or the "puzzle" is "pick up key right next door".
@VersVlees@supersid333 Yeah. Props to wings for actually showing up. Seeing that piece of shit boogie get punched was worth it alone. Holy shit i can't stand that manipulative fat fuck.
@Tamamo@Immahnoob@supersid333 Its crazy to think that years ago, we all made fun of Darksiders 1 and 2 for having braindead puzzles, but today the new modern gamer would struggle to figure them out.
@Darmy67@Immahnoob@supersid333 Yeah. Sure old games did had some bullshit/tedious puzzles that can fuck right off. Like that password cracking puzzle Parasite Eve 2. Fuck that one. I looked it up and kept the solution in the jewelcase. Or that chime color puzzle at the end of Fear Effect 2 where you practically needed photographic memory (or a camera pointed at the screen) to solve it.
But the shit in modern games can't even be considered puzzles anymore.
@VersVlees@Tamamo@supersid333 He got some good hits in, honestly. Dude could have a career if he just channels that playstation controller rage into boxing.
@Darmy67@VersVlees@supersid333 Boogie's reaction reminded me of that boxing match with Keyenka vs Uwe Boll and Keyenka thought it was all kayfabe while Uwe Boll was dead serious on kicking his scrawny ass. :doge_laugh:
@Tamamo@supersid333 Well the money offered to Richard certainly helped :heh: I mean its Wings "either either subscribe donate or get the fuck out" of Redemption.
@Tamamo@Immahnoob@supersid333 Im playing sysyem shock remake right now, and one of the long term puzzles that the game never tells you is how important the numbers on the monitors are after you blow up the computer nodes, they make a huge difference towards the end that i wont spoil for the ending. The entire game has a ton of parts where you need to pay serious attention.
@Darmy67@Tamamo@supersid333 It does tell you, there are quite a few logs about those screens and there's one right before the screen where you input the code that gives you valuable info about it.
@Darmy67@Tamamo@supersid333 Yes, it took me a while to remember those screens in the first place because of how used I was to do the objective and have the thing given to me (I was basically expecting some audio log). They were talking about how the CPUs kept on scrambling the numbers (that's a very early log) but I've forgotten about that log though and eventually I was stuck and I had to go through the logs again.
