     Something about being in the depths of the ship, buried in fire control, being cut out of the loop and only seeing distressing info is pretty terrifying. These guys just sat there watchin the ranges close, closer and closer with no idea why

     Product designers once again not respecting their craft enough. Not putting enough thought into fail-safe conditions. The buoy, the life vests, they were just designed for mass production, simplicity, and durability. We don’t always get the little improvements yielded by stuff like six-sigma and ISO procedures, but those though processes permeate modern design to yield improvements like “hey will our PFDs be functional when affixed to someone unconscious?”
