   @CrossTabbed20 @diresock uber mandates this because their business model puts the liability and risk on the car owner/driver
   
   a local business that actually had to be profitable wouldn't be able to survive in the places uber drivers don't want to go, for the same reason those places are "food deserts"

     @deprecated_ii @diresock idk; might make sense for towns to ban uber and focus on locally owned/operated rideshare services (federated perhaps), and keep more money from being sucked out of their communities
