     Also now that they are the same company, they are also the inventors of heroin, and I've heard it said that cartels wouldn't be able to make the stuff without precursors which are highly regulated. They just found some precursor hanging out in the woods. All of that doesn't matter I guess now that fentanil is the new hotness, but it kinda sounds like pharma may have been participating in the illicit drug trade :shocked:

     An aspect of the GMO food production system that seems worth exploring is the fact that these farmers choose the seed because they want higher yields, but in so doing they lose a lot of autonomy. They have to grow the crop based on Bayer's methods, harvest it according to their standard, and sell it at whatever price is set by them. They can't collect and store seed for next year, and if their crop ends up fertilizing a neighboring farm, Bayer can have their crop seized. It's fucked, and that's before you get into the questionable health costs.

     @ringo @dcc yes but like heroin I imagine fent needs other highly controlled chemicals for it's manufacture. Those chemicals just disappear mysteriously from pharma facilities and end up in central American forests. At least that was the case with heroin (also derived from opium)

     thats where the fentanyl comes from. of course one can synthesise opium but its cheaper and easier to use the real plant.

     @ringo @dcc the interesting thing is with fentanyl the Chinese seem to have figured out manufacturing on their own (reverse engineering the precursors probably). I wonder if the real reason you hear so much about it is because Bayer is losing money because they can't compete with Chinese fent.
     
     The fent problem is worse than the heroin problem ever was. It ends up in all kinds of pills that ate being sold as something else so a good number of people overdosing probably weren't even looking for dope. They were looking for some other prescription drug that is also common on the streets like xanax.

     but i think more likely is they will just give people who run big operations spiked cutting agents, as they dont really use the merchandise themselves,

     @ringo @dcc @thatguyoverthere I think it's actually cheaper to use fent, or at least it's strong enough that the core product is often diluted heavily and cut with it. Fentanyl's higher potency is a major contributing factor to ODs along with the natural tolerance reduction over time vs prior typical dose for heroin users.

     @BowsacNoodle @dcc @ringo a lot (majority?) of ODs used to be people who were actually trying to quit (or were jailed lowering their tolerance) and then went back to the same strength shit they used to. I think now with fentanyl there are more accidental deaths due to people thinking they are taking a perkacet or xanax they bought on the street (or even thinking they bought heroin).
