     You are letting it off the hook.

     Voting drives people insane and demoralizes them.

     That is its utility.

     It also shows us the bell curve in action, which is that given the chance, your average human group will vote for subsidized anarchy and banning scary words.

     the short version i used to go with was
     
     'voting is a consent to be ruled.'
     
     but its so much more than that, its also idol worship, false savior thing, it's a way to absolve oneself of the feeling of personal and community responsibility, and other such matters.

     I agree that democracy is bad psychological conditioning.

     People do not realize that they MUST be ruled; anarchy does not work.

     Democracy tries to split the difference on that one with "we rule ourselves," which fails for obvious reasons.

     Machismo repeated this.
