   Trying to decide whether to keep the Razer Huntsman Mini (optical linear) or send it back so I thought I’d do a typing speed test. The results with the Hunstman (60%) are in blue rectangles. Middle results are with my Topre Realforce (tenkeyless).

   First two results were likely me getting used to the test environment. The drop off after the second switch is me getting used to the Huntsman’s layout again. Overall, typing speed wise there isn’t a huge difference.

   I do miss the arrow keys though…

     I think the sweet spot for a programming keyboard is 65%.

     You get to keep your arrow keys and don’t have to remap the keys you’re used to but you still have a compact form factor where you don’t have to travel as far as you do on a tenkeyless for arrow keys (or Home/End, etc.)

     I do love the 60% form factor for aesthetic reasons. It’s just adorable (can keyboards be adorable? I think so…) but there’s about one key too few for my liking.

     And that’s before we start on the feel of the things… :)

     @hyde Looks cute. Most split keyboards look like they belong in a medical setting to me. This actually looks like it would fit in on a regular desk :)

     PS. Decided to send it back.

     If I do get a different keyboard, I’ll choose a 65% one that has QMK/Via support and works 100% on Linux.

     Things I did really like from the Mini were the optical red switches (much less tiring to type on, even though I do love the feel of my Topres) and the smaller form factor.

     Oh well, first world problems… ;)

     @wakingrufus Yeah, I tried that too but I also like the feel of using caps lock for the compose key (which I use quite often). In the end, though, given all the keyboard combinations I have for split panes in terminal + window positioning and sizing in GNOME (via an extension) it just got too confusing to add yet another modifier. Actually, getting used to it wasn’t the blocker though, it was switching between that and my laptop(s). Was just to jarring to go back and forth.

     I actually like 60% for programming because I don't have to move my hand at all for arrows, home, end, etc. I use capslock as the fn key to access them. My pok3r and ducky one 3 mini both allow me to do this.

     @haliphax @aral I do love my Drop ALT (I especially appreciate that it has both the LGBT and trans pride flags out of the box 😉 ) However it looks like QMK support is somewhat iffy. It seems there's a resolution to the issue en route but that doesn't necessary mean uninterrupted working code. https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/issues/14082

     @aral I have really been enjoying the Drop ALT so far! Used a cheap GK64 (with nice switches) for years, but the ALT just feels solid. https://drop.com/buy/drop-alt-mechanical-keyboard
