It's like a focus tested version by people who never really understood what made the former popular.

     @Elliptica @SchizoCynic I recall seeing people track it down to a ukrainian propaganda ministry early on, always struck me as accurate because of how inorganic it spread early on. You had these very stern “former CIA” types on twitter eagerly jumping on this “hot new mehmme” out of left field, immediately setting up rules where you had to “pay” by donating to a uke cause in order to use their garbage PFP memes.

     Really stank of a boomerish “uh trust me guys, I’m the COOL AUNT” in our family” marketeer nonsense

Pepe is the Sistine pepe while the fella is andy worhol level dreck. Yes it checks the boxes but without the true spirit of creation it will be just a pale imitation.
