     @CSBHOTSQUAD you know I'm thinking.. I remember hearing that property "ownership" is a 70 year contract in China. Building structures that are only designed to last 50 years seems extra shitty.

     I'm in a ~70 yr old wood framed four-storey.

     The finish on the floors is shot. The paint's less than ideal. But the thing isn't falling on my head anytime soon.

     @CSBHOTSQUAD I hear ya. I have a few big dogs who do a fair amount of damage. I used to refinish hardwood and the worst ones to have to sand were cat owners. absolutely dreadful.

     I got four cats. The old finish is polyurethane. These floors will never be repaired.

     The worn area under my desk I'm gonna try thinning some Scandinavian oil and add some Japan drier just to shore up the lignin.

     @CSBHOTSQUAD the worst floors in my house are in the kitchen. I don't think they are salvageable. They've already been sanded a few times, and I think the next time it's likely the nails will start to show. I am contemplating putting tile in there and being done with a hardwood kitchen floor altogether. It would also be good for wet weather days because we could make sure everyone just uses the back door and leaves their shoes in the kitchen instead of the foyer.

     Last place my landlord paid to re-floor it. I worked at a paint store that sold flooring.

     We got some commercial engineered laminate for a song.

     The commercial stuff they put in the entrance of grocery stores.

     It's really tough stuff.
