west europeans when discussing the ukraine war: this is a complex geopolitical scenario, we have to take in account the decades of NATO expansion and see how the west treated russia after...
east europeans: KILL AND MAIM RUSSIANS
-
@lain southeast asians: hehe russian tourist money
-
@lain if only we could appease Russia and avoid war this way, death is truly tragic
They should anschluss poland to avoid bloodshed!
*looks at this Friday's Russian channel 1*
"Should our war goal be reaching London, Brussels, or Berlin?"
*state duma member to a show guest* "You will not LIVE long enough to see nuclear war because i will kill you myself for being a traitor afraid of death!"
Those poor souls need to be treated right and equal!
-
@lain Well, east europeans also take into consideration the geopolitical history, but it's just a bit different experience
Also, tbh, as far as I see more and more often the people who use the argument of “NATO expansion bad” are just Marxist pieces of shit like Chomsky anyway

hordes of finns descend upon tallinn, seeking cheap booze. they encounter no border controls, the estonians switching from russian to finnish masters
-
@eal @lain if only kekkonen had taken up brezhnev’s offer of ruling over a fenno-ussr confederation…
-
@cell @lain the horror of a kepu *and* a commie running the government...
-
@lain if the westerners had the experience of bordering poccnr, maybe they wouldn't be as interested in listening to the faux concerns kremlin cries out as it fires its missiles
-
@eal @lain ok I did not know about airspace/sea border violations. fair enough
-
@rin @lain not my lifetime, but grandma was a WWII refugee from karelia
also georgia
also constant airspace surprise visits with nuclear bombers
the above, but with submarines
also stories of baby-stealing finns and very very oppressed russian-speaking minorities and other pretext for invasion regularly on russias national tv
-
@eal @lain experience like? I keep reading this "if you lived next to russia you would know" take from eastern europeans everywhere I go, but what notable things actually happened to russia's neighbours except ukraine in your lifetime?
-
@rin @lain also wasting a ~year of my life for military service, pretty sure it's not due to swedish expansionism that we have conscription
also cyberattacks on random government/healthcare services
The stronger experience is effects from before my time (only have to visit 00s eesti to see the prosperity occupation brings) but even during my lifetime there's a constant "fear us" messaging from the east in the absence of big notable events. When kalibrs are stationed within range of hki or western military district practices invasion, it's made sure that I get to hear about it
