@TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro @SpoopyAnon What is the ratchet metaphor?
-
@SpoopyAnon @Elliptica @Nou @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro Over 9000 hours in MSPaint
-
@Nou @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro @SpoopyAnon You know what's crazy though, there are people on the left who thing the opposite, that things get more "rightwing" with time, that conservatives always winning and that the left does nothing and gets nothing. It's kind of crazy.
-
@Elliptica @Nou @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro Yeah, they actually believe this as everything slides leftward and anyone vaguely right wing is deplatformed, cancelled and labeled "fascist."
-
@Elliptica @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro @SpoopyAnon You know how a ratchet wrench can be locked so it only twists in one direction and pulling in the other direction does nothing?
Basically that applied to politics. It's a recognition that the system is setup so that "progress" can never be undone once it's in place.
-
@Nou @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro @SpoopyAnon Ah, okay. I've thought of it like the plot of the function P=Sin(t) + t. t is time, and P is how "left/right" things are. Ratchets are a better way to describe this.

@Elliptica @rightwingsjw @SpoopyAnon @Nou @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro The official term for the socially liberal fiscally conservative neoliberal hellscape we live in is "Third Way". "Third Position" refers to us.
-
@RealAkoSuminoe @Elliptica @rightwingsjw @SpoopyAnon @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro What about those of us who are socially racist and fiscally... uh... also racist?
-
@RealAkoSuminoe @SpoopyAnon @Elliptica @Nou @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro yeah the US isn't becoming more left on economics at all
-
@rightwingsjw @RealAkoSuminoe @SpoopyAnon @Nou @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro It's becoming a weird third position, a mashup of communism and capitalism. Companies are the supreme authority in the nation now, given near limitless powers to impose radical social policies with almost no recourse from it's consumers.
Not a perfect example, but I just saw this today. Legally you may own something, but if two companies agree you don't, then you don't.

@SpoopyAnon @Elliptica @Nou @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro This ratchet model can only be considered true on economic matters, where the Democrats block things like universal healthcare, environmental protections, and labor rights. The things that they actually campaign and win on.

@Nou @RealAkoSuminoe @rightwingsjw @SpoopyAnon @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro "I'm fiscally liberal and socially conservative."
"What?"
"I think we should give reparations to White people."
