@aral I know it's probably unfair to say this. But I feel so angry at the Turkish people for voting for Erdogan AGAIN. If he doesn't die from his illness, his legacy will be 25 years of terror, and corruption. Yes, his bond with Putin made the Ukraine grain agreement possible. But I really thought people would've had it when Erdogan said the earthquake victims died “because of Gods will”. After all that he has done to them, they still didn't stand up to him. Wtf Turkey.

@MariaLiv Lots of factors: First and foremost, Erdoğan has been in power for 20 years. During that time he’s come to control the police, military and ~90% of the media. He is an authoritarian who has jailed countless members of the opposition both in and out of politics (and took his main rival out of the running with political prosecution). So did the Turkish people really reelect Erdoğan? I don’t know. It was an election, that’s for sure. But was it democracy?

@aral From the 0.7 million votes coming from Turks/German-Turks (sorry, don't know the correct translation) living in Germany, more than two-thirds voted for Erdogan. They live in Germany "without having to answer for the consequences of their choice" (says Mr. Özdemir, a federal german minister).

@af Yeah, this is why I rarely, if ever, reveal my background to Turkish people in Germany when I visit. They are overwhelmingly Erdoğan supporters.

Don’t underestimate how quickly a democractically-elected autocrat can destroy that democracy.
The US should be looking at Erdoğan as a warning for what can very easily happen there. (If not to Hitler before him, who was also democratically elected.)
The Republicans have been busy dismantling democratic institutions for years now in preparation. When they call it a “war“, believe them.

A fascist will never win a majority in this country again. They might STEAL power either due to the sick 1789 constitution and third way or a flat put coup but the republicans are dying
The United States has many many flaws but EDROGAN would not be REELECTED here for 20 years especially after ruining the Turkish economy or urinating on the Kurds
