@MordredSimp @Gronsak UE5 does lighting pretty good though, I don't think "working harder" because you have lesser tools (and getting it right) is somehow better, which is what your Doom 3 and Halo 3 examples sound like.
-
@Gronsak I remember this guy, he was saying Unreal Engine 5 games look better and the RTX Looks better (he didn't even have a reason) I was explaining how older games did lighting was better using Halo 3 and Doom 3 as Examples. He didn't listen and was a Dumbass the entire time

@MordredSimp @Gronsak So your problem is of style rather than of lighting done properly. Then that's an entirely different issue altogether and I don't really care about this specifically. :shrug:

@Immahnoob @Gronsak Those Lesser Tools made better games than the "better tools" we have today. I think Baked in Lighting looks better as it allows to set mood and tone, There's a reason why Movies don't use natural Lighting to light their movies. I think RTX is good technique but I hardly notice a difference in games with RTX and Without it

@MordredSimp @Gronsak @Immahnoob
You have to remember game engines have only improved over the years
It's the game devs that have gotten worse
-
@DerLeere @Gronsak @Immahnoob It's nostalgia mostly. Plus I like alot of the Art Styles from that time

@MordredSimp @Immahnoob @Gronsak
Tbf you are overly fond of "retro" games
Where baked in lighting is less noticeable amongst simpler textures
The only time ray-tracing shines is in games with high graphical fidelity
