Do they though?

@VTArgyle They don't "need" fishing, but... for some reason, I actually really like the inclusion of things like fishing minigames. But of course, it depends on how pivotal it is to the gameplay...

@VTArgyle NO
Absolutely not. I can feel the sands of the time of my fucking life actually ticking away when games have fishing mini games and it's required to do anything or is optimal to use. I install mods to auto fish in starjew valley because of this.

@TopBep @VTArgyle sorry I agree with yoko. It's a requirement :ina_nod:

@Kyonko802 There are some fishing games that are bad, while others are relaxing. Twilight Princess's fishing was pretty good imo. Totally side content, and was a nice way to just... chill for a bit.

If it's entirely optional, and isn't required to get anything, thats where I think it's fine, because I don't want to fucking engage with the mechanic, although if it isn't at least optimal to play it, I would consider it pointless to the game, and should have been removed or not developed as a feature in the first place.
I'm already playing a game, so I'm already chilling, there are better ways to take in the sights of a game besides fishing.
