I really need a good exercise program.
-
@sim I was certified as a fitness trainer up until January when I let it expire because no clients and no time to search for clients. I could probably give you a little guidance if you are interested. what are your goals for said exercise program?
-
@sim ring fit adventure is pretty good to start with
-
@sim About 8lbs/4kg a month is considered 'sustainable' weight loss. That would require calorie control, preferably in the form of nutrition-dense calorie-sparse foods.

@thatbrickster @sim This is reasonable. Some people will have a much easier time than others depending on where they are starting from. If a person has never really exercised before they may build muscle a lot faster than someone who has which can appear to slow progress. I usually recommend people focus more on shape than weight myself.
-
@thatguyoverthere How much fat is healthy and reasonable to lose each month? Although mine is still stored where I don't want it to be.
-
@Soy_Magnus @sim haha me either. I actually got my company to pay for the training and then used it to help friends and family. I thought about trying to get paid but I couldn't imagine a scenario where it could actually replace my current employment so it never really got a priority.
-
@thatguyoverthere @sim I didn't know you were into fitness as well =}. I give people advice often but I've never been paid for it lol
-
@thatguyoverthere @thatbrickster What does focusing more on shape look like?
-
@sim @thatbrickster I just mean looking at things like waist measurements more than the dial on the scale. Usually this is what people really want to see improve more than a number anyway and tends to move in a consistent direction while weight can fluctuate from day to day.
I use pant sizes as a good metric. If you have a pair of pants (or dress) you used to fit into but don't any more, a good goal might be to try and fit that within a few months (assuming it's a size or 2 off from your current size).
-
@Soy_Magnus @sim yeah I mean for a while it seemed like all the overweight people around me wanted help changing their habits and I was able to convince my company that the training was a fitness expense so it could be paid for by some insurance associated thing. I think it did help me appreciate the needs of larger people (low impact for example) that might not have been as obvious to me, but it didn't really change how I train myself all that much. It's like you said though the only way to make money with it seems to be to exploit the people who want to change but lack will power. It's not like I'd ever tell anyone who asked for advice to pay for it, but if someone wanted me to train them on how to do the exercises I recommended getting a few bucks for my time might be nice.
-
@thatguyoverthere @sim I've just sought it out when I wanted to change my health outcomes. Ive noticed that people don't want the help usually and like addiction the only people who change their outcomes are those who pursue it on those own so I have no interest in doing it for money. It becomes a paypig situation mostly, like the diet industry. They make money off people who never get healthy not the people who actually succeed imo
-
@Soy_Magnus @thatguyoverthere Reminds me of when I talk to people about mental health issues, although I've never trained in that. I just know some things from experience or research. Although I've found that I need to be extra careful to not make things worse. It is easy to lose friends or conversations to be mostly about this though.
-
@thatguyoverthere @thatbrickster Oh yeah, although I think that I got rid of most of those clothes now. Although there is one item of clothing that I tried today which just about fits that I got in the last few years, it would be great to lose some weight so that I feel more comfortable wearing it. But it is more like I have fat sitting in a place and way that I don't like, makes wearing things more difficult. I just don't know how to lose more weight than I have through food alone, which is why I'm considering the best way for exercise. Habits are hard to form and keep tho.
-
@sim @thatbrickster something you almost fit into or aren't happy with how it looks is a great gauge. Exercise may change your fat distribution as well as help work of excess. Combining diet and exercise is always a good approach. Do you go for walks or anything now? That's a good way to at least get your blood flowing. Are you thinking about using a gym or do you have somewhere you could exercise at home? There are a lot of body weight exercises you can do without a lot of space or any extra equipment.
-
@sim an exercise switch game that you play with an exercise ring
-
@coolboymew What is that?
-
@sim @thatguyoverthere that's also true. People want to believe what's convenient, not what's true and telling them what it is can sometimes only make them resent you
-
@Soy_Magnus @thatguyoverthere It can also be pretty intense to have those discussions a lot. Especially when you end up talking about things that people don't realise is a trauma or insecurity to them. There are no easy answers. Often, these are life struggles and you have to find ways to manage them while reaching your lifestyle aims.
-
@coolboymew Ohh... I think that I have some idea now.
