   Look up the Brilliance BS6 on why Chinese cars won't be a thing here for a while. I remember I was looking for crash test videos for a school project circa 2007 YouTube and everyone was mocking it. They had to strengthen it to actually sell the car there and by then everyone knew "Chinese cars = crumpling shit".
   
   So of course they just had to buy declining or dead brands instead; notably MG or Volvo (when Ford spun that off).
