   @JamesGleick the truth is "mastodon" isn't friendly to groups that need the coddling of big tech as it is the groups constantly banned over and over by Big Tech and whoever NGOs want banned this week.
   
   Because that's who has been on the fedi before people were mad about musk over blue checks and it'll be who will be there long afterwards.

     I remember how excited I was in the nineties, thinking that a shaggy, open, unpredictable, democratic internet had triumphed over AOL and the other closed commercial networks. Then came surveillence-driven social media.
