@jjetty Yeah, every unit is diff. Some fine scholarship money in it….if you’re brown or female. For everyone else it’s just a way to get a cheap wet rate on 182’s, but everyone I talk to says they’ve pretty much curtailed that over the last few years.
I really, REALLY think it’s hilarious to see the units here force people to wear the air force fatigues, though. They’ll have the same faggy sexual harassment meetings the military does, and they’ll insist you show up on a saturday morning in your full camos for a 3 hour powerpoint a a dozen krispy kremes to share between 20 people
@jjetty Kinda depends on your state, though. There are some places out west that have a fairly cool unit culture, because they have thriving aviation and lots of wilderness to cover when center does hear an ELT go off. In those cases you can actually get a scramble order and spend the day searching for a downed plane.
But most of the time it’s air force wannabes who REALLY treat the whole thing like an excuse to live out their command fantasies, and guys who wanna be pro pilots who just want to save money on renting a cessna. The latter have been cracked down on in most places, so now it’s mostly the former. But you DO get FAA wings credit. :/
